BP plans to use the hydrogen produced at the unit to produce biodiesel from bio-feedstocks.
By using hydroprocessing, bio-feedstocks such as vegetable oils or animal fats are reacted with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst to remove impurities and convert them into biodiesel.
“The unit will be capable of producing hydrogen from either natural gas or biogas produced by the Kwinana biorefinery,” Technip Energies said in a statement.
The company further said that it will provide engineering, procurement, and fabrication services (EPF) for a modularized hydrogen production facility with a steam methane reformer (SMR) technology that will produce 33,000 cbm/hour of hydrogen.
Additionally, Technip Energies stated that it is currently also assessing plans to produce green hydrogen.
The contract is valued between €50 million ($53.71 million) and €250 million ($268.61 million), Technip Energies added.
