The oil major, will offer B24 marine biofuel – a blend of 24% used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME) and 76% VLSFO. The UCOME component of the fuel will be certified by the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification System (ISCC), it says.
BP has also signed a long-term supply agreement with New Zealand-based transport firm StraitNZ, which operates cargo and passenger ferries between the Kiwi ports of Wellington and Picton, with about 50 voyages a week.
“BP is making a major investment across our Wellington Terminal network, in preparation for the introduction of marine biofuel blends,” BP Marine’s head Eddie Gauci said.
The biofuel blend will be supplied by barges from early next year, it said.
