Germany's coastal waters are part of the North Sea and Baltic Sea Emission Control Area (ECA) and vessels operating in these regions must use bunker fuel with a sulphur limit capped at 0.1%.

In northern Germany, distillate marine fuel (DMA) has typically been the “default” compliance option for meeting the 0.10% sulphur requirement. But the fuel is not always the "most economical" choice for buyers, and "limited availability" further narrows their options, Bunker One said.

The ULSFO expansion offers shipowners a “cost-effective” alternative to meet the region's sulphur cap, it added.

Deliveries in Hamburg will be carried out by the 4,300-cbm bunker barge Uwe Deymann.

The company has also extended ULSFO supply to the Germany's Weser River region from 1 April, including the ports of Bremerhaven, Bremen, Brake and Nordenham. Deliveries in this region are handled by the 3,566-cbm bunker barge Antwerp.

The expansion allows Bunker One to support both spot and contract enquiries across northern Germany, it said.

Beyond the North Sea ports, the company also supplies ULSFO in the Baltic region, including truck deliveries in Travemünde.
