This collaboration will see the two companies carry out a design approval using 3D classification, aimed at improving digital design and efficiency in shipbuilding processes.
The global LNG bunkering fleet currently stands at 67 vessels, with a further 37 expected to be delivered by 2028, according to data from classification society DNV.
At the same time, BV has granted approvals for several additional vessel designs from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding. These include a 201,000 cbm LNG carrier, a dual-purpose LNG carrier capable of operating as a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), a 150,000 cbm ultra-large ethane carrier, and a 271,000 cbm LNG carrier designed to accommodate future onboard carbon capture systems.
