Each 90,000-cbm vessel will be capable of operating on both LPG and conventional marine fuels. The ships will also be able to transport LPG cargoes and are designed with the option to be upgraded for ammonia carriage, according to BW LPG’s first-quarter 2026 financial results.

The newbuilds are scheduled for delivery in stages from early 2029 through the second quarter of 2030. The company has not disclosed details regarding their intended trades or deployment.

BW LPG currently owns and operates a fleet of around 50 VLGCs, including more than 20 LPG dual-fuel vessels, according to its website.

The global fleet of LPG-capable vessels currently stands at 168 ships, with a further 146 expected to enter service by 2030. Of the existing fleet, 158 are LPG carriers, while 10 are designed to carry both LPG and ammonia, according to classification society DNV.
