This funding will be used to upgrade existing infrastructure, improve and build bunkering facilities to support the use of alternative fuels and conduct a feasibility study for developing a new public port.
The fund was announced by Anita Anand, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Transport, as part of the Green Shipping Corridor Program.
The Green Shipping Corridor Program funds projects that help establish green shipping routes and reduce emissions in the marine sector across the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway, and Canada’s coasts. It aims to remove barriers to adopting emission-reducing technologies, support partnerships and investments in green technology, lower risks of investing in low-carbon and zero-emission ship technology, and help Canadian vessel owners adopt alternative fuels and technology in their operations.
“Incorporating green infrastructure into our logistics strategy promotes sustainability by reducing environmental impacts,” Vance Badawey, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, said.
