The vessel will be able to run on both LNG and conventional marine fuels. It will be delivered in 2028 and join the fleet of Carnival Cruise Line – a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation.

The order marks the 11th LNG dual-fuel vessel for the company’s global fleet and fifth to be operated by Carnival Cruise Line.

Prior to this, Carnival Cruise Line added Mardi Gras in 2021, Carnival Celebration in 2022 and Carnival Jubilee in 2023. It expects to take delivery of Carnival Firenze in April this year.

LNG has been gaining popularity among shipowners. The global LNG-fuelled fleet is currently made up of 509 vessels, with another 206 expected to join this year, classification society DNV data shows.

LNG can curb carbon dioxide emissions by about a quarter compared to conventional bunker fuels. But its methane emissions can be 36 times more potent as a greenhouse gas (GHG) compared to carbon dioxide over a century, according to a World Bank study.
