China imported about 49.49 million mt of crude oil in August, according to JLC. Of this, roughly 7.94 million mt was imported from Russia.

The drop in Russian crude imports came as China stepped up purchases from other suppliers, including Saudi Arabia (5.98 million mt), Iraq (5.65 million mt), and Brazil (5.19 million mt).

Despite the decline, Russia continues to hold its place as China’s largest oil exporter.

Beijing did not import any crude from the US last month – the third month in a row, JLC added.
