The company’s 10,640 TEU vessel APL Paris became the first vessel to successfully complete a biofuel ship-to-ship bunkering yesterday.

CMA CGM will undertake a six-month global trial project which will involve 32 of its container ships. They will run on different blends of biofuels to evaluate their carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions.

Some of these biofuel blends in Singapore will be B24, which includes 24% used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME), says CMA CGM.

The vessels used in these trials will range from 2,200 TEUs and 10,640 TEUs.

Additionally, CMA CGM has heavily invested on LNG-powered dual-fuel vessels capable of using BioLNG.

The CMA CGM Group is currently operating 12 LNG-powered containerships, a fleet that will grow to 32 containerships of various sizes by this year.

Aside from its biofuel and LNG bunkering ambitions, the company already has a fleet of 25 'e-methane ready' vessels and plans to deploy a total of 44 such vessels by 2024.
