The vessel was named in Mokpo, South Korea, and is capable of operating on both methanol and conventional marine fuels.

CMA CGM Thorium is part of a series of 12 methanol dual-fuel containerships, each with a capacity of 13,000 TEUs, being built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in South Korea. The vessel will be deployed on the Asia-Pacific route.

Earlier this month, CMA CGM also took delivery of the first ship in a separate series of six 15,000-TEU methanol dual-fuel container vessels being built at China’s DSIC Tianjin Shipyard.

The vessel, CMA CGM Monte Cristo, will operate on services linking North Asia with the Levant and the Adriatic Sea.
