The 15,000 dwt tankers, which have been designed by Norwegian technology company Kongsberg, will also be equipped with wind-assisted propulsion, hybrid battery system, and on-shore power system.

The company claims that these vessels will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40% compared to conventional marine fuels, with wind-assisted propulsion shaving off an extra 8% of emissions.

“By adding sails and operation with methanol to further reduce emissions and thus successfully meet current and future requirements in the EU and IMO and our NET ZERO by 2040 target,” Terntank’s owner Tryggve Möller says.

The company anticipates delivery of the first vessel in March 2025.
