This framework involves selecting routes, engaging stakeholders, assessing feasibility, incorporating lifecycle emissions estimates, setting baseline emissions inventory for port and vessel operations, and finally developing a plan for implementation.
As part of Canada's goal to achieve zero-emission shipping by 2050, its government will invest in zero-emission fuels and electrification in ports and harbours, net-zero emission technologies and zero-carbon marine fuels for ships.
Canada’s ports of Halifax and Montreal have signed green shipping corridor deals with Germany’s port of Hamburg and the Belgium's Antwerp. It is also working with the US to establish a Great Lakes green shipping corridor network.
