Construction of the cruise ship will be completed by Papenburg-based shipbuilding company Meyer Werft. It is expected to have a capacity for approximately 6,000 passengers, including around 2,300 crew members.
The vessel, previously called Global Dream, will be renamed under the Walt Disney brand, and will be deployed outside the US upon completion.
Disney Cruise Line claims the vessel “to be among the first in the cruise industry to be fueled by green methanol.”
Green methanol has been gaining attention as an alternative fuel choice among shipowners to reduce carbon emissions.
Recently, Danish shipping company A.P. Moller – Maersk inked its eighth agreement to source green methanol as a bunker fuel for its upcoming fleet of 19 methanol-ready dual-fuel container vessels.
