The Oceania α, a 10,000 cbm-capacity vessel, is purpose-built to deliver low-carbon ammonia to ammonia dual-fuel bulk carriers at the Port of Dampier. It can supply enough fuel to support two round-trips of iron ore shipment between Australia and North Asia.

Equipped with advanced containment systems, the vessel will enable efficient and safe ship-to-ship transfers of ammonia, both as cargo and marine fuel.

The vessel is designed to operate within the emerging green corridor between Australia and Asia, according to Oceania Marine Energy’s managing director, Nick Zaffaroni Bentley.

Ammonia gaining ground in Australia

The Pilbara Ports Authority recently announced plans to start ammonia bunkering trials at Port Hedland in Western Australia by next year.

In September last year, the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) led a ship-to-ship (STS) ammonia transfer at the Port of Dampier.
