Doosan starts mass-producing fuel cells for shipping and other applications
South Korea’s Doosan Fuel Cell has begun mass production of fuel cell stacks based on UK-based Ceres’ solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology, which can be used in a variety of applications, including the shipping sector.

The facility in Jeollabuk-do, South Korea, is expected to manufacture fuel cell stacks with a total capacity of 50 megawatts (MW)/year. Initial sales are projected to begin before the end of 2025, according to Ceres.
This marks the first time that one of Ceres’ partners has brought its solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology into mass production.
“By commercialising these technologies and promoting their domestic production, we intend to spearhead the acceleration of the global transition to a decarbonised society through eco-friendly energy solutions in the commercial power market and maritime mobility,” Doosan Fuel Cell’s chief executive Doosoon Lee commented.
