Dual-fuel vessels make up 27% of the global orderbook - ABS
This translates to around 50% of the orderbook in terms of gross tonnage, the American Bureau of Shipping’s (ABS) recent Sustainability Outlook report revealed.

The report states that this figure will increase further as the availability of alternative fuels improves this year. Methanol retrofit trials are set to begin this year, and ammonia marine engines are also expected to be available as early as next year. These factors may boost the availability of alternative marine fuels.
Of the total 1,581 ships on the orderbook, 837 are LNG dual-fuel. In terms of gross tonnage, LNG represents 34% of the total vessels, while 203 are methanol dual-fuel, making up 9% of the orderbook.
Currently, around 98% of the global shipping fleet is made up of ships running on conventional marine fuels, according to the ABS.
