Duo to develop shore power facility

Rotterdam Shore Power has partnered with Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals (RST) to develop a shore power facility at the RST terminal.

Rotterdam Shore Power is a joint venture between the Port of Rotterdam and Dutch energy company Eneco.

The partners will work together over the coming months to develop the project, with the aim of supplying shore power to vessels calling at the RST terminal from 2030.

The project will help RST comply with the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which requires major coastal and inland ports on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) to provide onshore power supply (OPS) for container and passenger ships by the end of 2029. From 2030, the FuelEU Maritime regulation will also require vessels above 5,000 gross tonnage (GT) to connect to shore power while berthed at TEN-T ports.
