FirstBio2Shipping is a project led by a consortium made up of Dutch bio-LNG producer Nordsol, waste management company Attero and LNG bunker supplier Titan.

Through the project, the firms aim to produce around 2,400 mt/year of bio-LNG and is scheduled to commence delivery by early 2024. They will build a bio-LNG plant in Wilp, Netherlands, which is the current site of Attero’s waste processing facility.

Attero will handle the conversion of biowaste into biogas, which will then be used by Nordsol to produce bio-LNG and 5,000 mt/year of liquid bio-CO2.

Titan will then supply the bio-LNG as marine fuel to ships.

The bio-LNG can cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 92% compared to conventional marine fuels, the companies claim.

Titan’s chief technology officer Ronald van Selm points to “bio-LNG as a strong clean fuel” and that Titan seeks to facilitate “its production and supply to the maritime industry” through the joint venture.
