The installation on the first tanker is likely to be completed by the end of this year, and the other by March next year.

A carbon dioxide battery will be charged onboard the vessels, before being discharged in port and used by carbon dioxide buyers. The discharged battery can then be returned to the vessels for carbon dioxide recharging.

This will allow the vessels to capture 40% of carbon dioxide emissions today, with a potential of exceeding 90%, Eastern Pacific Shipping says.

The two vessels, M/T Pacific Cobalt and M/T Pacific Gold, will also be fitted with gas cleaning systems that filters out sulphur and 99% of particulate matter.
