The 210,000-dwt bulk carrier, M/V Mount Tai, was bunkered with 4,887 mt of LNG by FueLNG’s bunker vessel, FueLNG Venosa. This marked EPS’ 100th LNG bunkering operation in Singapore and FueLNG Venosa’s first operation.

FueLNG, a joint venture between Seatrium Offshore & Marine and Shell Singapore, intends to combine “Singapore's strategic location and supportive infrastructure” to make it “a prominent LNG bunkering hub.”

The operation shows “commitment towards the industry’s energy transition to lower emissions,” EPS chief executive Cyril Ducau says.

LNG has been gaining popularity among shipowners. The global LNG-fuelled fleet is currently made up of 399 vessels, with another 145 expected to join this year, according to classification society DNV data.

LNG can curb carbon dioxide emissions by about a quarter compared to conventional bunker fuels. But its methane emissions can be 36 times more potent as a GHG compared to carbon dioxide over a century, according to a World Bank study.

M/V Mount Tai is part of the EPS fleet that transports “iron ore along the green corridor from West Australia to Northeast Asia.”
