The vessels will be built by Korea’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and delivered by 2025.

Crowley will deploy these vessels to improve connectivity from US markets to Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

These vessels will be equipped with MAN Energy Solutions’ ME-GI engines to help reduce methane emissions.

Classification society DNV’s data shows that the number of LNG-powered vessels in operation or on order has gone up by 141 since last year, to 387 this year.

This number is set to more than double in the next few years. A total of 833 LNG-powered vessels are registered as in operation or on order towards 2028.

LNG appears to be the preferred alternative fuel choice for a lot of container ship owners. 215 container ships are part of the 833 LNG-powered vessels registered in DNV's database – more than double the second (104 car carriers) and third (89 crude oil tankers) biggest vessel types.
