The 210,000-dwt bulk carrier, Mount Ossa, can run on both LNG and conventional marine fuels. It has been chartered to mining company Rio Tinto.
In May 2023, the company took delivery of its fifth vessel of the series, Mount Tai.
“These LNG-powered vessels have proven to be a sustainable choice, emitting 30% less than their conventional counterparts,” EPS says.
LNG can curb carbon dioxide emissions by about a quarter compared to conventional bunker fuels. But its methane emissions can be 36 times more potent as a greenhouse gas (GHG) compared to carbon dioxide over a century, according to a World Bank study.
