Equinor extends LNG bunkering deal with Gasum
Norwegian energy company Equinor has opted to extend its LNG bunkering contract with the Finnish energy company Gasum.

The extension will enable Gasum to continue bunkering Equinor’s LNG-fuelled offshore vessels near the Norwegian coast with LNG. The stems will be delivered via onshore terminals and truck-to-ship.
Gasum considers LNG to be “the cleanest marine fuel widely available.” It claims that LNG can help remove sulphur emissions, cut nitrogen oxide emissions by 85% and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20%.
Earlier this month, Gasum delivered its first LNG stem to Containerships Borealis in Denmark. The vessel is owned by French container shipping company CMA CGM.
LNG has been gaining attention as the preferred near-term alternative fuel of choice among shipowners to reduce emissions.
Classification society DNV’s data shows that the number of LNG-powered vessels in operation or on order has gone up by 145 since last year, to 391 this year.
This number is projected to more than double in the next few years. A total of 857 LNG-powered vessels are on order for deliveries towards 2028.
