Esvagt to build methanol-ready vessel
Danish offshore shipping company Esvagt has contracted Turkey’s Cemre Shipyard to make what it claims will be the world’s first methanol-ready service operation vessel.

The vessel, designed by the Norwegian firm HAV Design in cooperation with Esvagt, will be powered by batteries and have dual-fuel engines that can run on e-methanol.
The e-methanol will be produced from renewable sources like wind energy and biogenic carbon, allowing for a 4,500 mt/yr carbon dioxide reduction, the firms say.
The contract follows an agreement between Esvagt and Danish power company Ørsted to invest in the offshore service vessels powered by renewable fuels.
The vessel is expected to get commissioned by the end of 2024 and operate in the North Sea, in the world’s largest offshore wind farm area, Hornsea 2.
