The company will supply B30 marine biofuel – a blend of 30% biofuel derived from waste-based fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) blended with 70% VLSFO. The biofuel component can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 87% on a well-to-wake basis compared to conventional marine fuels, ExxonMobil claims.
ExxonMobil will supply the biofuel in the ARA hub. The FAME components have been certified by the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC), it said.
“We aim to have net-zero greenhouse gas emissions for our entire fleet by 2045 by using alternative fuels,” Hapag-Lloyd’s senior director for global fuel purchasing Jan Christensen said.
