Fluxys to increase LNG regasification capacity at Zeebrugge terminal

Belgium-based Fluxys has announced that it is increasing the long-term regasification capacity at the Zeebrugge terminal in Belgium from 110 to 134 slots per annum from April 2027.

Regasification is the process of converting LNG back into its gaseous state. LNG is natural gas that has been cooled to approximately -162°C (-260°F) to be transformed into a liquid, making it easier to store and transport. When LNG reaches its destination, it undergoes regasification to return it to its gaseous form, so it can be distributed. This process typically involves heating the LNG using seawater or other heat sources in specialized facilities called regasification terminals.

Between November 2023 and February 2024, Fluxys LNG conducted a market survey to gather feedback on the LNG services and potential expansion of the Zeebrugge terminal.

Many shippers showed strong interest in accessing the terminal and securing long-term regasification capacities. To meet this demand, Fluxys LNG will convert its short-term additional slots into long-term capacities.

The terminal offers “unloading or loading any type of LNG ship, transshipment between LNG ships, LNG truck loading and LNG regasification for injection into the transmission network,” according to the company website.
