“With LBG produced in the right way, we can run our vessels completely without emitting CO2 or harmful particles,” says Lars Höglund, chief executive, Furetank.

The new plant, which is expected to produce around 5,000 mt LBG annually, will become Eskilstuna municipality’s largest in 20 years, says Kaj Wågdahl, chairman at Eskilstuna Biogas.

The plant will use manure and food waste from the municipalities of Eskilstuna and Strängnäs to produce gas, which will be upgraded to 100% LBG, Furetank says.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has made a grant of SEK 140 million ($15.21 million) toward the project.

Furetank will run its vessels largely on LBG with zero fossil emissions by 2030, Höglund said In June last year.
