Gasum eyes LNG and LBM bunker market in the ARA
Gas supplier Gasum is planning an entry into the ARA bunker market and has now been listed in the Dutch trade register, which would allow it to explore liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (LBG).

“LNG-usage in maritime transport will increase significantly in the near future. Upcoming EU emissions regulations are expected to increase interest and uptake of lower emission alternatives, of which LNG is currently the most viable,” Gasum’s vice president of maritime Jacob Granqvist says.
He argues that northwest Europe offers a “huge emerging market” for LNG bunker fuel and that Gasum is well positioned to claim a significant share of it.
The company is working to expand its maritime LNG operations in the region and to increase availability of LBG and bio-LNG.
Gasum claims that LBG can reduce a ship's carbon dioxide emissions by 90% compared to fossil fuels. It aims to “increase biogas availability on the market significantly in the next five years.”
