Methanol- or ammonia-ready means that the vessels will not be capable of running on ammonia or methanol upon delivery. These vessels will have the option to be retrofitted for ammonia or methanol propulsion in the future. This implies they will most likely run on fossil marine fuels upon delivery.
The 82,300-dwt open hatch vessels will have dedicated deck space on either side of the accommodation, designed for the future installation of fuel tanks for alternative fuels.
The company expects the delivery of these vessels in October 2028 and January 2029.
The vessels will be operated by Norway-based ship operating firm G2 Ocean, where Gearbulk holds a majority ownership stake.
These units will be additional to the four vessels ordered in April.
