The trio includes Dutch LNG bunker supplier Titan, German shipping group Nordic Hamburg and US-based manufacturing company Wesmar.
The LNG-powered bunker barges will be built by German shipbuilder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG).
Cumulatively the three vessels will have a capacity of 4500 cbm, as reported by Handelsblatt. The barges will be utilised to bunker fossil LNG, bioLNG and synthetic gas (SNG) to ships, initially, and later will deliver LNG stems to German and European seaports. The vessels will also be capable of bunkering ammonia in the future.
German Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck said, “The maritime energy transition and the associated switch to alternative fuels in shipping are a huge task.”
