Under this partnership, both nations aim to advance international routes between Eastern Canadian ports, such as Halifax and Montreal, and key ports across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East where green shipping technologies could be adopted in the future.

“Germany considers international cooperation vital in decarbonising maritime shipping,” said Dr. Claudia Elif Stutz, Germany’s state secretary.

The German Federal Ministry of Transport noted that the goal of developing green shipping corridors will be further advanced through the upcoming National Action Plan for Climate-Friendly Shipping and supported under the new Climate-Friendly Shipping and Ports program, funded through the government's Climate and Transformation Fund.

Specific details regarding the fuel types or technologies to be deployed have not yet been disclosed.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of a high-level bilateral meeting in Ottawa, Canada.
