Global Ship Lease backs carbon capture retrofits for container ships

London-based shipowner Global Ship Lease has decided to invest in carbon capture retrofits for its container ships.

The initiative, led by Norway’s Aqualung Carbon Capture, has set out to develop carbon capture units that can be installed on container ships and other vessels to reduce carbon emissions.

Global Ship Lease executive chairman George Youroukos says carbon capture systems can help ships to adapt to a multi-fuel environment in future, “....almost regardless of the initial fuel input, the ultimate output is a highly standardized."
