The facility has been developed by the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla.

The latest commissioning of the 1 MW module is part of a larger 10 MW project, India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said. The plant has a green hydrogen production capacity of about 140 mt/year, it added.

It is “poised to play a crucial role in maritime decarbonisation and sustainable port operations,” according to the official statement.

Green hydrogen is produced through the electrolysis process using electricity generated from renewable sources like wind and solar. However, the ministry has not disclosed the renewable source of power for this project.

Notably, India is striving to become a production and export hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives.
