GTT to design fuel tanks for six LNG-fuelled container ships on order

January 28, 2022

French marine engineering company GTT will design 12,700 cbm-capacity LNG fuel tanks for six LNG-fuelled vessels being constructed by the South Korean Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI).

HSHI received the vessel order from an unnamed European shipping company.

The vessels are expected to have a capacity to carry 15,600 containers, says GTT, and will be delivered in 2024.

LNG can cut carbon dioxide emissions by 20%, nitrogen oxide and particulate emissions by 91-92%, and virtually eliminate sulphur oxide emissions, GTT says.

However, LNG’s methane emission can be 36 times more potent as a greenhouse gas compared to carbon dioxide over a century, says a World Bank study.
