The 40,000 cbm-capacity LCO2 carrier has been designed to support the expanding CO2 value chain, recognizing the growing significance of innovative technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS).
The collaboration aims to investigate and establish the operational characteristics of LCO2 carriers, as well as assess the design suitability and feasibility of these vessels. LR's involvement in the project centred on evaluating the operational aspects of the vessel.
The companies have not disclosed any details regarding which fuel would be used for propulsion or anticipated delivery date.
In November 2023, Capital Gas ordered two ammonia-ready low-pressure LCO2 carriers from South Korea’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.
