HIF Global plans an e-methanol plant in Brazil
US-based renewable fuel producer HIF Global (HIF) will set up a facility at Brazil's Port of Açu to produce 800,000 mt/year of e-methanol.

HIF has signed a land reservation contract with the Port of Açu to develop the facility. E-methanol produced in the plant can be used as a marine fuel for ships, HIF said. However, the company has not provided any specific details on when the facility will become operational.
E-methanol, also known as synthetic methanol, is produced using renewable electricity-powered electrolysers. These electrolysers split water molecules into their core hydrogen and oxygen atoms, to produce green hydrogen using renewable power. This green hydrogen is combined with 100% biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) to produce e-methanol.
HIF already operates an e-methanol plant in Chile and has recently announced plans to set up e-methanol plants in the US, Australia and Uruguay.
