The 9,100 CEU pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) is the sixth in Höegh's series of 12 dual-fuel LNG vessels built by China Merchants Heavy Industry in Jiangsu, China.
The vessels will be able to connect to onshore power supply. With dual-fuel engines they have options to run on either LNG or oil-based fuels like VLSFO and LSMGO.
The Höegh Moonlight is also designed for potential future retrofits to run on ammonia.
“The first 8 vessels are dual-fuel 'ammonia-ready' with reinforced decks and an integrated tank developed by TGE Marine,” the shipping company said.
Höegh took delivery of the first two vessels in the series - Höegh Aurora and Höegh Borealis - in August and September last year. The third and fourth vessels - Höegh Australis and Höegh Sunlight - joined its fleet in January, followed by the fifth vessel, Höegh Sunrise, in May.
Höegh Autoliners plans to operate the final four vessels in the series, scheduled for delivery from 2027, using green ammonia, as previously reported.
