The four two-stroke ammonia dual-fuel engines will be delivered to an undisclosed Asian shipyard, which is set to build Höegh Autoliners’ four 9,100 CEU capacity PCTCs. The engines will be manufactured by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.
The company has not revealed further details about the vessels, including their delivery schedule or deployment plans.
“We have adopted a responsible, safety-first approach to developing this engine on account of ammonia’s particular risk profile, and are confident that ammonia will ultimately become one of three major alternative fuels in the market, along with methanol and methane,” said Bjarne Foldager, Everllence’s head of two-stroke business.
