The pure car and truck carrier Höegh Sunrise is currently en route to Shanghai to bunker, before it will sail to Japan and then towards Europe.
It is the fifth in Höegh's series of 12 dual-fuel LNG vessels built by China Merchants Heavy Industry in Jiangsu, China.
The vessels will be able to connect to onshore power supply. With dual-fuel engines they have options to run on either LNG or oil-based fuels like VLSFO and LSMGO.
The Höegh Sunrise is also designed for potential future retrofits to run on ammonia or methanol, as indicated by its DNV class notations.
Höegh took delivery of the first two vessels in the series - Höegh Aurora and Höegh Borealis - in August and September last year. The third and fourth vessels - Höegh Australis and Höegh Sunlight - joined its fleet in January.
Höegh Autoliners expects to receive two of these new vessels every six months until mid-2027. The company plans to operate the final four vessels in the series using green ammonia, as previously reported.
