Houston Ship Channel fully reopens
February 3, 2022
The key waterway leading into ports and bunker locations in the Houston area reopened to outbound traffic only at noon local time (18.00 GMT) yesterday.
With the channel closed since Tuesday evening, vessel congestion had built to 33 waiting inbound, 22 outbound and three shifting vessels pending, port agent Norton Lilly said.
When the channel reopened for traffic in both directions at 01.50 local time (07.50 GMT) today, the queue of vessels waiting to pass outbound had come down to eight, while inbound congestion had built to 45 vessels.
Pent up vessel traffic in both directions should be allowed to clear with a low risk of fog forecast for the week ahead.
