This follows failed negotiations over pay hikes between employees and the MDHC Container Services. The workers are unhappy with the 7% pay hike offered by the company, saying the offer is much below the current inflation rate.

The announcement has raised concerns over possible disruptions to vessel movements and cargo and container handling in the port. "Considerable disruption is expected in the Liverpool and Merseyside area in the North West of the UK," US based logistic firm Crane Worldwide Logistic said.

“The strike action will severely disrupt both shipping and road transport in Liverpool and the surrounding areas,” said Unite union, which represents dockworkers in the company.
