The case was transferred to the Central Netherlands Court on 3 June. Linde van Dieren-Muller, a lawyer at VDK law firm, has been appointed as bankruptcy trustee.

Future Proof Shipping has not disclosed the reasons for the bankruptcy filing and has not shared any further details at this stage.

The company retrofitted two diesel barges in 2024 to operate on hydrogen propulsion and had agreed to source green hydrogen from Air Liquide.

According to a company update published in 2024, its first hydrogen-powered inland container barge was chartered by BCTN Network of Inland Terminals on behalf of sneaker firm Nike to transport Nike's products within Europe.

A separate update published on its website in 2025 said its second hydrogen-powered barge had been deployed on routes between Belgium and Rotterdam using green hydrogen.

Future Proof Shipping did not publish any further updates on either project in 2026 prior to filing for bankruptcy.
