The move is a part of pledge to develop a climate change strategy for Antarctic tourism.
The data will be collected from vessels of all sizes, aircraft, and accessory vehicles.
This will help the association to track greenhouse (GHG) gas footprint from IAATO operations in Antarctica and formulate measures to cut emissions in the continent.
The association aims to achieve the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) target of at least 50% emissions reductions by 2050 compared with 2008 levels.
It has also advised members to set their own goals for reducing carbon emissions.
The data collection will put IAATO in a strong position to reduce emissions, particularly when sustainable fuels and related technologies become available in future, IAATO’s chair of climate change committee Pam Le Noury said.
