Iberdrola signed the agreement with ACE Terminal and Dutch hydrogen network Gasunie’s subsidiary Hynetwork Services at the Iberdrola hydrogen plant in Puertollano, Spain.
Green ammonia will be shipped to the planned ACE Terminal in Rotterdam, where ACE will either convert it into green hydrogen and transport it via Hynetwork Services to northwestern Europe or keep it as green ammonia and supply it as a bunker fuel.
“The current facilities in Puertollano are in the first phase and, in the future, we aim to multiply the capacity of the plant ten times,” Executive Chairman of Iberdrola Ignacio Galán said. “We also signed a contract to sell ammonia that we will produce in Huelva, more than 100,000 tonnes per year. We have planned investments in this sector of more than €3 billion, of which more than half will come to Spain,” he added.
In February, Cepsa was the first Spanish energy company to strike a deal with ACE to create a green hydrogen supply chain.
