The ships that will be built as part of the new contract will have a total length of 103.88 metres each, a width of 19 metres and draft of seven metres. Besides methanol, the ships can also carry fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) biofuels and other products.

The contract was signed after several rounds of negotiations between the two companies. They have not disclose a delivery date or pricing details.

Methanol has become one of the most popular alternative fuels under consideration to help cut future emissions from the maritime industry.
