John T. Essberger takes methanol-ready tanker order tally to four

German shipping company John T. Essberger has exercised its option to order two more methanol-ready chemical tankers from China’s Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering Equipment.

Methanol-ready means the vessels will not initially be equipped to run on methanol but will have provisions for future installations of methanol fuel tanks and engines.

The 13,000-dwt chemical tankers were designed by Swedish firm FKAB and classified by DNV.

However, the company has not revealed additional details, including the delivery timeline.

Earlier, in September, the company ordered two methanol-ready chemical tankers from the same shipyard, with an option to purchase four more.
