The taskforce was formed at the Shaping the Future of Shipping Summit hosted by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in London this week.
The representatives have also agreed to work on the ‘Clean Energy Marine Hubs Initiative’, which will have support from ports, shipping companies, and energy firms for development and deployment of clean fuels for shipping, ICS says.
The initiative is expected to be launched in September at the Clean Energy Ministerial meeting, it says.
According to ICS, the shipping industry would need the complete share of the world’s current renewable energy production to decarbonise the sector by 2050.
