LR has awarded the approval in principle (AiP) to HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering’s (KSOE) 210,000-dwt bulk carrier design that can support propulsion on multiple marine fuel types, the classification society said.
The vessel will be able to use conventional marine fuels, as well as alternatives like LNG, ammonia and methanol, LR said.
The vessel design incorporates advanced navigation systems and optimised hull form to increase fuel efficiency and operational safety, LR added.
KSOE is an intermediate holding company for South Korean firm HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding operations.
