Lloyd's Register (LR) has issued a Factual Statement for the system, PureMetrics, as it has been found suitable for directly monitoring selected greenhouse gas emissions from marine diesel engines onboard ships.

LR's assessment was based on a review of technical documentation and onboard tests. It also covered the system's emissions calculation methodology.

PureMetrics is designed to measure carbon dioxide and methane, the two greenhouse gases most closely linked to shipping's decarbonisation efforts. It can also monitor carbon monoxide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulphur dioxide.

Along with marine diesel and dual-fuel engines, the system can also be installed on LNG-fuelled vessels, where methane emissions are an increasing focus for regulators and shipowners.

Shipowners and operators can reference the appraisal as a technical foundation when integrating the system into ship-specific monitoring plans and certification processes, the two firms said.
