Four tanks with a total capacity of approximately 20,000 cbm are planned for conversion, pending necessary approvals. The conversion will take place in two phases: the first two tanks by mid-2026 and the remaining two in 2027. Retrofitting is set to begin in mid-2025, with methanol storage scheduled to start in 2027.
Once completed, Mabanaft plans to import methanol for storage and distribution in Germany and potentially other locations. The company anticipates growing demand for methanol in shipping, other transport sectors, and the chemical industry.
“Our goal is to simplify the transition for our customers by making methanol and other alternative fuels more accessible,” said Oleksandr Siromakha, Mabanaft’s head of sustainable fuels.
Last year, Mabanaft signed a letter of intent to supply green methanol to TUI Cruises.
